Aims of project: The construction "Optimisation of track České Velenice - Veselí nad Lužnicí, 1st construction" is one of a set of constructions for modernisation of the 4th transit rail corridor, which includes the section of the track from the state border with Germany, through Děčín, Prague, Veselí nad Lužnicí, České Budějovice and Horní Dvořiště to the state border with Austria. The section of the track Veselí nad Lužnicí - České Velenice constitutes a branch line of the 4th corridor in the direction of Gmünd and Vienna. The purpose of the construction is to put the railway track and associated constructions and equipment into a technical state corresponding to European parameters and standards.
Technical description
of project:

The start of the construction is at km 163.100 on the state border with Austria. The end of the construction is in the direction of the track to České Budějovice at km 166.000 and in the direction of the track to Veselí nad Lužnicí at km 1.868. The construction alterations at the railway station České Velenice will be implemented in the complex of the existing railway station, and with the exception of one locality, they will not leave the lands of Czech Rail. The entire construction is on the cadastral territory of České Velenice.
The implementation of the construction will ensure a track speed of 100 km/hour for conventional trains, the introduction of spatial clearance for the loading gauge UIC GC and loading class D4. For the operation of units with tilting mechanisms a track speed of 120 km/hours is assumed. The final effect of construction is the attainment of parameters designated in the Technical Specifications For Interoperability For Tracks of the European Railway System.

One part of the construction is PS 01-24-02 – railway station České Velenice, reconstruction TS 22/0,4 kV, technology. This operational system resolves the reconstruction of the existing transformer station of the railway station České Velenice. The transformer station will be out of operation for the time of the reconstruction. Alternative power supply will be ensured by a mobile transformer station. The construction contractor will ensure its delivery. The actual relocation is dealt with by SO 01-36-21 - railway station České Velenice, adjustment of connection E.ON 22 kV (is outside the construction).

Course of construction:

The organisation of the construction is broken down into a total of 5 construction procedures.

Construction procedure 1:
At the end of 2008 and start of 2009 preparatory work was performed before the start of non-stop closures consisting of preparation of the equipment of the construction site, construction and paving of access roads, felling non-forest greenery, demolitions of existing paved surfaces and existing tracks in the area of the locomotive shed with the aim of freeing up space for the construction of a supply station. And during short closures the foundations of the traction supports were built.
● Construction procedure 2:
On the date 16.03.2009 non-stop closures started as part of the construction. In this procedure there were track alterations for the new "Budějovice Gridiron" and the connection of the track in the direction of Veselí nad Lužnicí, including 3 culverts. Inside the station there was a reconstruction of track 2, 4, 6. The subway between these tracks, including construction of first and 2nd platform with roof, was also renovated.
● Construction procedure 3:
In this procedure there were track alterations for connecting the relaying of the Budějovice track to the existing route, including renovation of 2 culverts.
● Construction procedure 4:
There was a reconstruction of track 1, 3 and 5, and the remaining part of the renovation of the subway was completed, and a third platform, including renovation of roofing, was built.
● Construction procedure 5:
The Austrian gridiron of the station from the state border with Austria was reconstructed. A new load-bearing construction across the river Lužnice was built.

In each construction procedure renovation of the railway bed, including drainage and rainwater drainage, was carried out during each construction procedure. The construction of traction current lines, lighting, cable routes, and building objects continued.

The construction is currently in the phase of completion work consisting of the fitting of trolleys at the railway station and adjacent sections, activation of safety and communication equipment, low-current cabling, including installation of electrical heating of exchangers, completion of surfacing work - paths. The construction of the new TT 110/27 kV supply station is also continuing.
