CONSTRUCTONS, RECONSTRUCTIONS AND MAINTENANCE OF RAILWAY SUPERSTURCURE

This is a field of activity constituting the Company's major production program. As a matter of fact, building constructions, reconstruction and maintenance of railway superstructure that VIAMONT a. s. has - at large - been dealing with since entering the scene in 1992. Other domains would emerge over time with the spread of the scope of its activities within further segments of transportation construction, inasmuch the name of the Company that nowadays is Viamont DSP a. s., which is now part of the VIAMONT Concern.

Diagnostics

The type and scope of works performed on permanent way ensue - ab ovo - from the assignment, i.e. each customer’s requirements (rail track administrator). The objective of diagnostics is setting out a range of defect elimination approaches with regard to the relevant volume of traffic (density of trains) and financial power of the orderer.

Job supplies are delivered - by Viamont DSP a. s. in all of the following categories:

  • Minor maintenance of railway superstructure largely includes repair of operating local defects (of minor scope) threatening safety and smoothness of rail traffic or any defect that may, within a course of defect development, imminently endanger rail traffic. On the said level, we perform replacement and replenishment of small rail segments and means of fastening, manual spinning and lubrication thereof, rare replacements of full-length rails, cross wooden and reinforced concrete sleepers, switch sleepers, and removal of rail raptures, rail welding, implementation and LIS and A-LIS repairs, modification of local direction and height rail defects and points, including evaluation of GPK status by a manual rolling gauge bar, manual cleaning of gravel ballast, ditches and pathways, and disposal of vegetation and evergreen trees.

  • Medium-sized repairs of railway superstructure include any repair of contiguous character, being generally performed on sections longer than 150 m.

They are usually comprised of one of the prevailing main performance to do eliminate the most eventful defects found on the basis of any diagnostic results found and other works executed, either supplementing them or being by this performance thus caused.

Our company provides the following service performance:

    • Machine cleaning of track-ballast bed in full profile, or behind each sleeper’s head. To increase bearing resistance of the ballast through inserting a construction layer (or geotextile fabrics) between a track-ballast and subgrade, we use a ballast cleaning machine. Viewed as work related to machine track-ballast cleaning, we perform modification of pathways, ditches and drainage equipment, GPK modification, including dynamic stabilisation, replenishment of track-ballast bed and its modification into any profile required, safe disposal of any extra contaminated soil according to the approved technological procedure.

    • Ballast bed replacement as follows:

      • by means of special railroad construction machines, above all, the 600 Machine Cleaners and maintenance machines (e.g. AHM 800 R) without lifting, or eventually before lifting a railroad grillage;

      • by employing earthmoving machines or trackless cleaner during railroad grillage lifting.

    • Rail track replacement, which means replacing either every single rail tack or rails welded together to form long stretches of up to 300 m.

    • Rail sleeper replacement, being performed:

      • manually;

      • employing machines used for replacement of individual sleepers (the SVP 74 railroad construction machine, mechanical two-way diggers)

      • continual replacement of all railway sleepers by means of restoring machines;

    • Welding railroad rails and points by applying the Rail-Tech technology;

    • Implementation of railroad rails using Thermit welding of rail joints or replacement of long rail stretches by means of SDK II machine sets. For any detailed information, see the Rail Welding Chapter.

    • Modification of direction and height layout of railroad tracks and shunts by using automatic ballast and points tamping machines. To reach quality GPK modification, we harness machine lines comprising of the following machines:

      • automatic tamping machine (ASP);

      • ploughs used for adjustment of railway gravel ballast (Pusl, USP, SSP, ...)

      • ballast compacting machines (ASPz, ZS)

      • dynamic track stabilizator (DGS 90 N) or ballast vibrator (VKL);

      Correcting the position of points geometric cross section is also completed by performing the manual stabilisation of points.

  • Reconstruction of railroad superstructure essentially entails the replacement of the worn-out superstructure material by fresh or reclaimed material. We are engaged in both re-railing of relevant rail route segments and gridiron reconstructions. The crucial works performed during railroad ballast reconstruction constitute the following:

    • railroad ballast bed reconstruction using machine cleaning or full replacement of any respective railroad ballast bed;

    • reconstruction of the railroad track-grate of rails and points applying the following procedures:

      • axis mounting (e.g. the technology of separate laying of railroad tracks and sleepers using SUM 1000 CS, SZU 350 .... maintenance machines;

      • pre-assembly of track panels and switching parts by means of UK 25/ 18 type crane wagons, PKP 25 type track-laying machines, TPL 550 special track panel-laying machines, Desec, etc., EDK type rotary crane wagons, truck cranes.

Performing GPK modifications of inserted railroad tracks and shunting devices, welding and installation of seamless rails, gravel replenishment and ballast modification into any profile required, adjustment of pathways, ditches and drainage systems, dismantling of obsolete railroad-track gridiron including its classification according to categorisation, and processing project documentation amended pursuant to the actually accomplished construction in both a graphic and digital form.

A prerequisite for ensuring quality performance of all the activities stated above is an extensive technical hinterland. In this regard, the Company disposes with an assembly base located in Chabarovice, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The equipment available at the base namely includes a siding yard disposing with gantry cranes and own small diesel loco-tractors for shunting service with a junction curve to Czech Railways (CD). In order to be able to face unexpected events, Viamont DSP a. s. disposes of its own superstructure materials equipment centred at the base in an amount sufficient for tackling - on an operational basis - any failure of operation that might possibly occur on either the relevant railroad stretches, or on shunting switches. The agents performing individual construction jobs are mobile construction & erection squads, equipped with cutting-edge small machinery equipment. Engineering assurance of relevant constructions is conducted by qualified site construction managers and foremen, participating on the preparation, implementation, and the follow-up site acceptance testing of any individual construction concerned.
